Jake Johnson Supports Healthcare for Veterans, Kids, and People with Disabilities
In response to the federal government pausing nearly $260 million in Medicaid funding to Minnesota, congressional candidate Jake Johnson — whose family depended on Medicaid to make ends meet growing up in southern Minnesota — issued the following statement in response.
“We absolutely should have zero tolerance for fraud in our public programs,” said Jake Johnson. “But a blanket pause to Medicaid funding is not a serious attempt to go after fraud. We should be prosecuting the criminals and fixing the system to prevent fraud going forward, not wholesale taking away healthcare from veterans, kids, and our neighbors with disabilities.”
Jake has gained significant attention for his personal story of achieving the American Dream in part due to support from programs like SNAP and Medicaid helping his family make ends meet, so that he had a chance to work hard and succeed. Meanwhile, his opponent, Representative Brad Finstad, voted to cut nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid, while handing that over in tax breaks to rich individuals and large corporations.
