Today, public school teacher and first-time candidate Jake Johnson announced that he has raised over $1 million in his campaign to flip Minnesota’s first congressional district, all without taking a penny from corporations. Jake has received over 19,000 donations, with most of them coming from residents of Minnesota.
“Our message of bringing down costs, taking on corruption, and investing in our small towns is clearly resonating across southern Minnesota,” said Jake Johnson. “I don’t take it lightly that so many people have put their trust and faith in our campaign, and I’ll keep working hard so that we have a representative who shows up for us, not for billionaires and big corporations.”
While Representative Brad Finstad is bankrolled by corporate PACs and convicted fraudsters, Jake is cleaning his neighbors’ driveways and washing cars with his former students, many of whom are working on his grassroots campaign. Jake has not taken a dime from corporate PACs, and 95% of the contributions to his campaign have been $100 or less.
These latest fundraising numbers add to Jake’s growing momentum in MN-01. Last month, a poll found that Jake was within just 3 points of Finstad, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added this district to its list of “districts in play” for the 2026 midterms.
