Brad Finstad is Playing Political Games, Abusing the Power of his Office to Push Lies

ROCHESTER, MN — Jake Johnson is calling out Brad Finstad for using his office to make false, baseless attacks against Rochester Public Schools, which is Johnson’s employer, for political expediency.

“This is what people hate about politics,” said Jake Johnson. “Congressman Finstad is abusing taxpayer resources by directing his congressional office to find and launch baseless attacks to support his reelection campaign. Finstad knows he’s losing, so he’s grasping at straws to try to make this race be about anything other than the expensive bills that families like mine are dealing with every day.”

Get the facts:

  • On June 23, 2026, Brad Finstad wrote a letter expressing his concern about a footnote from a Rochester Public Schools board meeting from February 8, 2022.

  • In a remarkable coincidence, Finstad is facing a tough reelection fight in 2026 against a math teacher employed by Rochester Public Schools.

  • Finstad’s concerns are baseless. The district never adopted or implemented the materials Finstad claims to be concerned about.

  • Neither Finstad nor his staff bothered to contact Rochester Public Schools before launching this political stunt and pushing this lie.

  • Instead, Finstad sent a letter to a state official who has “no authority or influence” over local curriculum decisions.
