Jake Johnson Chooses Grassroots Engagement Over Pay-to-Play Politics
Jake Johnson Launches Signature Petition Drive for Congressional Ballot Access
Today, Jake Johnson officially launched his signature petition drive to secure a place on the ballot for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District this year. While other politicians like Rep. Brad Finstad are buying their way onto the ballot, Jake is taking a different path.
“Too many politicians take money from corporations and buy their way onto the ballot,” said Jake Johnson. “I’m taking a different path. I’m proud to be out in the community: listening to voters, earning their signatures, and proving that real representation starts at the grassroots level.”
Under Minnesota law, candidates can qualify for the ballot by filing an affidavit of candidacy accompanied by either a filing fee or a nominating petition with a required number of signatures from eligible voters in the district. For U.S. House candidates, nominating petitions must be signed by at least 1,000 voters from the district.
Today’s kickoff marks the start of a community-powered effort to collect 3,000 signatures across the district — well over the number of signatures required. This drive underscores Jake’s commitment to earning his spot on the ballot through strong grassroots support.
The campaign will collect signatures from all 21 counties across the district, with Jake and volunteers engaging with voters in their communities. Volunteers and supporters can learn how to sign the petition at https://www.jakejohnsonforcongress.com/signatures.
