PRESS RELEASE

Jake Johnson Outraises Rep. Brad Finstad by Over $130K in Q1

Jake hauls in over $470,000 — nearly 40% more than the incumbent — without a single dollar from corporate PACs.

Public school teacher Jake Johnson significantly outraised career politician Rep. Brad Finstad (R) in the first quarter of 2026, according to FEC filings released late last night. Jake raised more than $470,000 compared to Finstad’s $340,000, and Jake did it without accepting a single dollar from corporate PACs.

Finstad’s numbers tell a different story: less than half of his total came from real people, and corporate, Washington, and special interest PACs made up the majority of his contributions. Jake raised over $100,000 more from Minnesotans than Finstad, and Jake raised nearly $200,000 more from small-dollar donors than Finstad.

“Our campaign is powered by Minnesotans who are tired of politicians putting corporate donors ahead of the rest of us while costs keep rising,” said Jake Johnson. “Brad Finstad might have big corporations in his corner, but we have tens of thousands of real people in ours. And these numbers are proof that our first-time campaign can take on a lifelong politician and win.”

These latest fundraising numbers add to Jake’s growing momentum in MN-01. In the past year, Jake has raised over $1.2 million, with over 94% of contributions being $100 or less, and most contributions coming from individuals in Minnesota. In February, a poll found that Jake was within just 3 points of Finstad, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added this district to its list of “districts in play” for the 2026 midterms – proving that MN-01 is a top flip opportunity. Earlier this month, Jake announced that over 4,000 people across southern Minnesota signed a petition to get him on the ballot in November.
