One Year Later, Jake Johnson Says Finstad's Vote Is Still Hurting Southern Minnesota sent
One year after Congressman Brad Finstad voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act — which was anything but beautiful — Jake Johnson said southern Minnesota families are still paying the price.
"Brad Finstad called this bill a victory. A year later, families are paying more for health care, rural communities are losing critical medical services, and too many parents are having a harder time putting food on the table,” said Jake Johnson. “We need to reverse these cuts and make life cheaper and easier for the people of southern Minnesota."
The law cut Medicaid and food assistance while providing tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. Since it took effect, health insurance has become more expensive, rural health care providers have faced mounting financial pressures, and thousands of Minnesotans have lost access to nutrition assistance. Rural hospitals and clinics across southern Minnesota continue to struggle, with several facilities reducing services or closing altogether.
And unless Congress acts, an even steeper wave of cuts is scheduled to take effect in 2027, putting additional pressure on rural hospitals, clinics, and nutrition programs across southern Minnesota.
