Jake Johnson and Brad Finstad face off at Farmfest Congressional Candidate Forum

REDWOOD COUNTY, MN — Today, Jake Johnson appeared on a panel at Farmfest with Rep. Brad Finstad, alongside the candidates in Minnesota’s second congressional district.

“It was good to meet my congressman for the first time,” said Jake Johnson. “We had a productive, civil dialogue about our views on important farm policy issues, and I appreciated the chance to highlight why I believe I would be able to deliver more for our rural communities in the halls of Congress.”

The panel highlighted the differences between Finstad and Jake. While Finstad pointed to his vote for a new rural healthcare funding provision, Jake articulated how that provision was actually part of a broader funding package that resulted in a net loss of $87 billion for rural healthcare. On reducing input costs for farmers, Jake highlighted his opposition to the massive tariffs and Iran War that are driving up input costs – positions that Finstad does not share.

Jake believes in good ideas, no matter the party. That’s why, on the panel, Jake found common ground with Finstad and Republicans on reforming the H-2A visa program and making it easier for new farmers to get started. Jake also highlighted how he would be a bipartisan problem solver who would actually deliver for rural Minnesota; Jake pointed to how politicians have talked a big game on passing year-round E15 and ending Proposition 12, but keep coming up short on both.
