Fact Checks

Brad Finstad is making up a lot of claims about Jake Johnson's policy positions that are simply not true. Here are a few things that everyone should know:

  • Jake Johnson does NOT want to raise taxes on tips, overtime, and social security. In fact, Jake Johnson supports cutting taxes on tips, overtime, and social security. As the Post Bulletin noted in their endorsement of Jake Johnson on October 20, 2026: “Contrary to Finstad’s characterization of him in his television ads, Johnson is supportive of some of the tax reductions in the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” including eliminating tax on tips and Social Security. He told us more than once in his interview that there are some — not many — of Trump’s policies that he supports.”

  • Jake Johnson does NOT support “giving illegals Medicare and Social Security” as Finstad’s ad claims. In that ad, Finstad cites an article from The Globe on August 11, 2026, in an attempt to back that claim up, but that article says nothing of that sort. In fact, that article notes that Jake said “if somebody breaks the law, and if you're here illegally, they need to be deported. I don't think that should be controversial. I think that is common sense.” Furthermore, in the first debate between Jake and Finstad, Brad Finstad actually said he has “pretty close agreement” with Jake on immigration.

  • Jake Johnson does NOT support a 24% tax hike, as Finstad’s ad claims. In fact, Jake Johnson’s priorities page on his website has listed “support tax cuts for working families and small businesses” as the top priority bullet for over a year.
