DFL Rallies Behind Jake Johnson with Provisional Endorsement in MN-01
AUSTIN, MN — Today, local math teacher and union leader Jake Johnson announced that he has received the provisional endorsement of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. The vote to award this designation passed with unanimous support, giving Johnson a clear pathway to the general election in Minnesota’s first congressional district.
“This provisional endorsement sends a clear message: Southern Minnesota is ready for a representative who actually shows up, solves problems, and makes life more affordable,” said Jake Johnson. “I’m running for Congress to stop the destructive tariffs, protect medical assistance, and invest in our small towns. I thank the DFL for their early support and recognition that we are building a winning campaign for working families.”

“Jake Johnson has deep roots in southern Minnesota, a record of leadership in the classroom and in his union, and the grassroots campaign to win this district,” said Lori Sellner, Chair of the Minnesota 1st Congressional District DFL. “With families here struggling under Republican tariffs and healthcare cuts, Jake is exactly the kind of candidate who can defeat Brad Finstad and deliver for working people.”
The provisional endorsement is a way that the DFL can provide early formal support to a candidate for an office. This status is conferred if the candidate has gained sufficient support within the DFL and there are no other candidates currently vying for the party endorsement. A candidate receiving this status will still have to be formally endorsed by the party next May at the DFL 1st Congressional District Convention.
