PRESS RELEASE

Jake Johnson meets with students at MSU and Gustavus

MANKATO and ST. PETER, MN — On Wednesday, Jake Johnson dropped by Minnesota State University, Mankato and Gustavus Adolphus College, launching canvasses with student volunteers and meeting students across both campuses. Many of the students Jake talked with said they hadn't been planning to vote this year, and left the conversation planning to.

At both schools, Jake hyped up groups of young volunteers before they headed out to talk to their peers about the election. The volunteers said they were excited to knock doors for a candidate who isn't bought and paid for. Students asked Jake about his support for releasing the Epstein Files, getting rid of Flock cameras, and pausing data centers, and Jake shared his support for all three. At Gustavus, Jake had an in-depth conversation about the national debt with a conservative math education major. In Mankato, Jake knocked doors in off-campus housing, where students told him they live off campus because it's cheaper than living in the dorms. Jake also ran into several of his former students, who were thrilled to see their old math teacher and greeted him with big hugs.

“When students tell me they're moving off campus because they can't afford to live on campus, that tells you how much housing, education, and basic necessities cost these days,” said Jake Johnson. “These young folks are paying more for rent and more for groceries, while their congressman sells them out to data center companies and Chinese corporations. I'm grateful to every student knocking doors this week, and it was so great to run into some of my former students on campus.”
