Brad Finstad Votes to Raise Health Insurance Costs
This afternoon, the House of Representatives voted 230-196 to extend the expanded subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for another three years, with 17 Republicans joining all Democrats in supporting the bill. Congressman Brad Finstad voted no.
“Congressman Finstad just voted against lowering health insurance costs for over 10,000 people in southern Minnesota,” said Jake Johnson, candidate for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District. “While I’m hearing about high costs on the campaign trail everywhere I go, Congressman Finstad is in Washington voting for MNSure premiums to be $240 per month higher on average. Many families will now have to pay twice as much for health insurance this year compared to what they paid last year.”
Jake believes southern Minnesotans deserve a representative who fights for them and lowers their healthcare costs. If elected to Congress, Jake will never stop doing that.
On the other hand, Finstad has a track record of voting to make healthcare less affordable and less accessible. This summer, he voted for the “Big Beautiful Bill” which took nearly $100 billion out of rural healthcare across the country, which was shortly followed by the Mayo Clinic closing four rural clinics in Minnesota’s first congressional district. Finstad has also supported legislation that would allow insurance companies to provide stripped-down plans that do not meet the ACA essential benefits requirements, taking care away from those with pre-existing conditions and chronic conditions.
