Jake Johnson Holds Small Business Roundtable in Lanesboro

Lanesboro, MN — On Friday morning, local math teacher Jake Johnson held a roundtable with over a dozen small business owners in Lanesboro, Fillmore County. Attendees included owners and operators of local breweries and restaurants, local companies in the arts and in packing, as well as local leaders such as Lanesboro Mayor Alicia Pearson.

"Small businesses power our small towns, and what I heard today is that the lack of access to affordable healthcare and the rising cost of living is holding them back," said Jake Johnson. "Thank you to every local small business owner who came and shared their stories and their concerns so I can go to Washington to solve problems for them.

Healthcare topped the list of concerns, with owners frustrated by insurance companies and government bureaucrats. One small business owner shared that she had to return to a previous job because she could not afford to go without health insurance. Another participant said they previously had to drive an hour to a doctor in La Crosse, Wisconsin, covered by their insurance — until that clinic closed as well. Participants also discussed the rising cost of living and the national debt, which Jake has a plan to take seriously, unlike career politicians from political parties.

The roundtable is part of a series Jake is hosting across the district, alongside his 21 in-person public town halls this summer. Jake will return to Fillmore County on Monday, July 27,  for his next town hall, which will be hosted at Sylvan Brewing at 6PM.
